چکیده

Background Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the virus that causes disease 2019 (COVID-19), which at time of writing (January 2021) was responsible for more than 2.25 million deaths worldwide and over 100,000 in UK. SARS-CoV-2 appears to be highly transmissible could rapidly spread residential care homes. Serology Testing for SARS-CoV-2: Benefits and Challenges

As COVID-19 was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020, it is an emerging need to discuss different aspects of this pandemic. In any pandemic, valid and rapid laboratory diagnostic tests are critically important for early diagnosis, which will increase the rate of successful treatment and more importantly prevent the spread of the disease.

In-reach specialist nursing teams for residential care homes: uptake of services, impact on care provision and cost-effectiveness

BACKGROUND A joint NHS-Local Authority initiative in England designed to provide a dedicated nursing and physiotherapy in-reach team (IRT) to four residential care homes has been evaluated. The IRT supported 131 residents and maintained 15 'virtual' beds for specialist nursing in these care homes. METHODS Data captured prospectively (July 2005 to June 2007) included: numbers of referrals; rea...

Hypoglycaemia is the most common metabolic complication occurring in older people with type 2 diabetes. Limited data are available about prevalence of diabetes or its complications in care homes. However, the prevalence of residents with diabetes in care homes seems to be significant. There is high level of disability, dependency, and polypharmacy among residents in these settings. Hypoglycaemi...
